Summary

Operates and maintains the campus energy management and control systems. Provides monitoring, diagnostic trouble-shooting, repair and maintenance of all controls assigned to the Division. Participates in the development and implementation of Energy Services projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversees the installation of electronic control systems.
  2. Performs quality assurance inspections on all completed jobs; ensures conformance with institutional standards.
  3. Assists in the monitoring of energy consumption to ensure efficient and sustainable operations.
  4. Inspects construction work in progress. Evaluates quality of workmanship and compliance with specifications and codes.
  5. Participates in Energy Services project development and delivery with other team members.
  6. Monitors work performed by outside contractors on related projects.
  7. Organizes, oversees, and maintains an inventory of test equipment, tools, and supplies; ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  8. Participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a computerized maintenance management system, to include corrective and preventive maintenance programs.
  9. Manipulates building energy management computer systems and control logic sequences to optimize performance and energy conservation.
  10. Provides instrumentation calibration.
  11. Participates in the installation of new equipment.
  12. Use metering and testing equipment to validate permanently installed meter readings and energy saving results.
  13. Follows and promotes continuous improvement of divisional performance, and of safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  14. Lead team commissioning effort for both new and existing systems.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 8 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: Current New Mexico Journeyman in one of the following disciplines: Journeyman Refrigeration (JR), Journeyman Gasfitter (JG), Journeyman Plumber and Natural Gasfitter (JPG), Journeyman Boiler Operator (BO1), Journeyman Boiler Operator (BO2) or a Journeyman Electrician (JE98), Journeyman Plumbing (Jp), Journeyman Gas (Jg), ES-3J Sound and Intercommunication and Electrical Alarm Systems, EE-98J Electrical ((includes all ESJ Specialties), EE-98) Electrical (includes all ESJ Specialties), EL-1J Electrical Distribution Systems, including transmission lines, ES-3 Sound and Intercommunication and Electrical Alarm Systems, EE-98 Electrical (includes ER-1 and ES classifications) & EL-1 Electrical Distribution Systems, including transmission lines.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and schedule work assignments.

  • Ability to program computer controls using manuals and input devices.
  • Knowledge of instrument calibration standards and tolerances.
  • Ability to use testing and metering equipment to substantiate energy services program project selection and performance.

  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management principles as related to supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and modify electronic controls schematics, blueprints and control logic.
  • In-depth working knowledge of campus energy management systems.
  • Ability to perform inspections of mechanical building systems and building energy management systems.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Knowledge of Delta and Automated Logic software applications.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must obtain a New Mexico journeyman license in HVAC or Electrical within six (6) months from date of hire.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
