Summary

Supports both administrative and coaching aspects of the UNM competitive, organized video gaming program, also known as esports program. Provides functional support to all programmatic aspects, including recruitment and community outreach; team planning; fiscal management; and functions as subject-matter expert for internal and external constituents. Supports, represents, and deputizes for the Esports Director, as appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supports all facets of the daily operations of the esports program, ensuring compliance with the University, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations.
  2. Represents the esports program to external entities as it pertains to event and facility management; liaises with external partners to provide event services in University facilities.
  3. Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.
  4. Participates in the development of annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction to the unit.
  5. Supports various fundraising, marketing, and promotional activities.
  6. Oversees audio and visual equipment usage; assist users with set-up and operation of equipment.
  7. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  8. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience with esports as player or staff.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to effectively analyze programs and events and recommend opportunities for improvement and growth.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to foster an open and welcoming environment to all student-athletes.
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sport.
  • Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees in this job title are considered term employees. Term end date is one year from date of hire with renewal contingent upon performance and/or budget.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
