Summary

Participates in planning and implementation of team or individual strategies and tactics for an NCAA Division I athletic program. Assists in the provision of guidance, coordination, and instruction to student-athletes in the execution of game methods techniques. Assists in the recruitment, training, and game preparation of student-athletes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists in organizing, preparing, and conducting practices, training, and competition.
  2. Recruits student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations through scouting, on-site attendance, and home visits.
  3. Directs and coordinates specified critical areas of team competition planning, as appropriate to the program.
  4. Assists in and may coordinate the recruitment, training, and game preparation of student-athletes.
  5. Represents the sports program to various institutional programs and externally, as assigned.
  6. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; minimum directly related experience requirement is determined by the VP for Athletics.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with student athletes.
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sport.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty.

  • Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
  • Compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required in this position.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
