Summary

Under general supervision, supports the University's efforts to sustain a culture of awareness and adherence to safety standards. Conducts needs assessments and designs and delivers training in both classroom and non-classroom environments. Assists in facilitating and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Designs and conducts orientation and training in area of specialty, including the delivery of current department and division policies and procedures.
  2. Performs ongoing evaluations and assessments of proficiency and compliance with federal, state, local, and institutional safety regulations and policies.
  3. Selects or develops training aids, including training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and document templates.
  4. Develops training curricula and/or recommends or utilizes vendor programs that meet instructional goals and objectives.
  5. Responds to routine and emergency safety situations, to include interfacing and coordinating with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  6. Coordinates all required reporting and incident procedure; reports activity through appropriate channels in a timely and thorough manner.
  7. Works closely with various committees on reviews of safety procedures, prevention of workplace injuries, resolution of safety issues, process improvements, and ongoing efforts to create and sustain a safety awareness culture.
  8. Participates in the development of operating goals and objectives for the unit; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the unit.
  9. Compiles and prepares statistical spreadsheets and activity reports for management.
  10. If located within UNM Parking & Transportation Services, may perform in the capacity of bus driver during the shift, providing safe and efficient transportation to the University community and its visitors.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Ability to analyze and assess training and development needs.
  • Ability to prepare and present training materials in area of specialty.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Records maintenance skills.

  • If assigned to Parking & Transportation Services, ability to safely and efficiently operate a loaded passenger bus and perform required routine vehicle inspection including checking the oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, and water and tire pressures.

Conditions of Employment

  • If assigned to Parking & Transportation Services, successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • If assigned to Parking & Transportation Services, must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • If assigned to Parking & Transportation Services, possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger Endorsement is a requirement for this job.
  • If assigned to Parking & Transportation Services, must comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt dust, fumes, unpleasant odors and loud noises.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Physical requirements must be in compliance with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
