Summary

Issues sports and/or recreational equipment to a variety of customers. Keeps stock of new and used athletic supplies and other equipment. May perform preventive maintenance and repairs on sports or recreational, laundry room, and/or cleaning equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintains and issues sports equipment, which may include balls, golf carts, shoes, and other equipment.
  2. Maintains, washes, and mends equipment and uniforms. May launder, mark, and issue towels.
  3. Assists with routine operations and customer relations within established policies and procedures of the sports facility.
  4. Schedules reservations for sports facilities.
  5. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  6. May troubleshoot mechanical and electronic devices on sports and weight room equipment and makes repairs as necessary.
  7. May troubleshoot and repair laundry room equipment including washers and dryers; repairs cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners.
  8. May make minor repairs to athletic facilities such as gyms and tennis courts.
  9. May perform general maintenance, custodial, and trash removal tasks.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of laundry cleaning procedures.
  • Knowledge of sport specifications.
  • Knowledge of golf mechanical and electrical equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of athletic, mechanical, and electronic equipment, supplies, and/or uniform repair.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to schedule events and/or facilities usage.
  • Ability to repair washers, dryers and vacuum cleaners.
  • Ability to make minor repairs to gyms, tennis courts, and/or other athletic facilities.

Conditions of Employment

  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
