Provides meals for patients in research studies. Prepares and serves food in accordance with research specifications, and food safety standards. Maintains supplies, equipment, and records as indicated. Interacts with research patients and medical staff

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prepares and serves patient meals according to prescribed dietary instructions and food safety standards.
  2. Assists in performing a variety of duties relative to the preparation of patient meals.
  3. Follows standardized recipes and modifies recipes according to patient needs; incorporates new recipes as directed when preparing patient meals and snacks.
  4. Maintains food and related supplies by conducting weekly inventory checks; procures supplies as required.
  5. Uses food product nutrition label information to plan meals.
  6. Performs basic mathematical calculations and maintains written records including patient census, patient food intake levels, and other related documents.
  7. Calculates diabetic exchanges and other dietary measurements.
  8. Keeps work areas orderly, clean, and safe; ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies.
  9. Performs a range of routine office functions as assigned, to include basic word processing of documents, emailing, and accessing web sites, as well as other general office tasks.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Ability to prepare and serve meals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to modify standardized recipes and incorporate new recipes.
  • Ability to interpret and use food product nutritional label information.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Basic computer and general office skills.
  • Ability to maintain records and perform basic mathematical calculations.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
