Summary

Manages and coordinates the quality improvement program for the School of Medicine (SOM), providing advanced professional/ technical leadership. Designs, implements, coordinates, and evaluates quality improvement projects for the department using research, data management, analysis, and reporting. Sets strategic direction and develops and implements related operational policies and procedures. Collaborates and partners with University of New Mexico Medical Group (UNMMG), University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) Quality Department and quality outcome groups on joint quality improvement efforts and initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manages the data analytics and tracking of various clinical programs and provides recommendations for quality improvements across multiple departments.
  2. Monitors and ensures data quality and integrity for long-term quality measurement strategies.
  3. Oversees the development and maintenance of various systems to identify, collect, and analyze measurement data.
  4. Leads the collection, development, analysis, and communication of measurement data to establish benchmarks and support decision-making, problem-solving, and planning for continuous quality improvement.
  5. Analyzes the reporting requirements and develops and disseminates statistical and narrative reports to SOM senior leadership, department chairs, and individual faculty.
  6. Assists in leading the planning, developing, and coordination of training and educational programs to meet the quality assurance needs.
  7. Monitors and evaluates national trends, quality reports, clinical standards, and benchmark measures to ensure ongoing compliance and to enhance quality improvement efforts.
  8. Collaborates with school and physician leadership on quality improvement work plans and standards.
  9. Manages the development and maintenance of various databases related to data collection.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including WORD, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to write reports containing technical information.
  • Strong data and records management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning, leadership and training.
  • Ability to identify and resolve data problems, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
  • Familiarity with formal quality and process improvement programs such as LEAN and Six-Sigma.
  • Working knowledge of core measures of performance, patient safety and mortality improvement in a health care setting.
