Summary

Installs, maintains, and repairs locks, access systems, and related hardware. Maintains records and electronic facilities access.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Installs, maintains, and repairs mechanical & electronic locks, hydraulic closing fixtures, and related hardware.
  2. Cuts new or duplicate keys, stamps, and maintains master key files and records of keys distributed, ensuring safety and security of materials and data.
  3. Adds and/or modifies electronic facilities access for the University community and contractors.
  4. Maintains inventory of supplies and parts; maintains logs and records work performed and materials used in accordance with departmental standards.
  5. Assists with or performs the repair and programming of electronic access control systems.
  6. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  7. May maintain and repair ADA door operators, door closers, and control gates.
  8. May provide estimates and order materials, parts, tools, and equipment needed for work assignments.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED'; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Flexibility and strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair door hardware and related devices
  • Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair both mechanical locking and electronic access control devices.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
