Summary

Installs and maintains parking meters, equipment, and signs throughout campus. Assists in providing parking services, parking enforcement, and security as required. Performs light routine maintenance tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Inspects parking meters for indications of malfunction.
  2. Repairs parking meters, including meter housings and internal mechanisms, and replaces glass windows.
  3. Installs new parking meters and modifies existing meters to comply with changes in requirements.
  4. Installs signs designating permanent or temporary parking zones.
  5. Issues parking citations to drivers of illegally parked vehicles.
  6. Patrols parking lots and parking structures and reports the existence of hazardous conditions.
  7. Performs routine maintenance tasks as required including light non-trades plumbing, carpentry, painting, metal work, road work, and parking lot maintenance.
  8. Performs snow removal, as required.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to assess operating status of parking meters and/or equipment.
  • Ability to install, repair and maintain parking meters and/or signs .
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record hazardous conditions in parking areas/structures.
  • Ability to resolve difficult or stressful customer service issues.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of objects that can weigh up to 50 pounds (or greater mass that require mechanical assistance). Standing or walking may occur up to 40% of time.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
