Summary

Fabricates signs according to established standards using computers and cutting machines, and various other types of equipment; constructs sign frames and foundations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Operates computer and vinyl cutting equipment to create signs.
  2. Constructs and paints sign boards and frames.
  3. Transfers vinyl text to sign material.
  4. Operates engraving equipment to create name plates and signs.
  5. Performs snow removal duties, as required.
  6. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of computer signage design and fabrication.
  • Skill in selecting and applying paint and associated products.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Knowledge of painting techniques and vinyl cutting machines.
  • Ability to use engraving equipment.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
