Under general direction, coordinates the daily activities of a customer order fulfillment department of a major unit. Facilitates interaction between customer service, warehouse, accountants and credit manager, and sales and marketing. Leads and trains employees who process orders; schedules and releases orders for shipment according to sales policy and customer requirements. Investigates and resolves complex customer complaints.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises the day-to-day operations of the unit, which provides customer service and processing of customer orders.
  2. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  3. Receives, prioritizes, and processes customer orders; schedules and releases orders for shipment according to sales policy and customer requirements.
  4. Investigates and resolves complex customer complaints.
  5. Supervises computer system input, invoice and report output, and system operation procedures.
  6. Develops operating goals and objectives for the unit; implements and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the unit.
  7. Assists in maintaining security for unit, including vault and contents.
  8. Orders departmental supplies, oversees petty cash fund, and performs routine accounts receivable activities.
  9. Facilitates interaction between customer service, warehouse, accountants, credit managers, sales, and marketing.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Ability to process computer data and to format and generate reports.
  • Knowledge of procedures and documentation for the processing and placement of retail customer orders.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
