Summary

Under direct supervision, provides event support for a variety of general campus events and/or special activities. Performs individual and/or departmental moves, technical and general maintenance of grounds, facilities, and/or equipment, at a level not requiring formal licensure. Routinely interacts with all constituents in the campus community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Sets up, assembles and breakdown of furniture, equipment, and/or related items for classroom, office and university events.
  2. Performs a variety of semi-skilled and/or skilled work in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of University grounds, facilities, and equipment, to include carpentry, painting, maintenance, and graffiti removal tasks.
  3. Operates forklifts, scissor-lifts, boom lifts, and other light mechanical equipment as required.
  4. Loads and unloads furniture and related materials onto and off trucks, ensuring that appropriate padding and ropes are used to prevent damage.
  5. May renovate, refurbish, install and/or repair wood and metal benches, chairs, bike racks, trash cans, recycle cans, outdoor signage, or other similar items.
  6. May coordinate and schedule moves and special events.
  7. May serve as the main contact person in communications with customers regarding work orders and maintain records of work performed.
  8. May perform snow removal as required.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and judgments on routine procedural issues.
  • Ability to maintain and control equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Knowledge of shop maintenance and clean-up procedures.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours as needed.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
