Summary

Under general supervision, oversees the day-to-day membership development activities of a university public broadcasting entity. Supervises, coordinates, and trains staff, students, and volunteers in the solicitation and receipt of donor contributions through pledge drives and direct mail activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversees the processing, balancing, and data entry of all incoming membership mail, the processing of installment, charge, and pledge contributions, and the generation of receipts and acknowlegements.
  2. Monitors and coordinates the interaction of staff and volunteers with donors by phone, mail, and/or personal contact, ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal laws, regulations, policies, and standards.
  3. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  4. Analyses and summarizes programmatic, financial, and statistical data; prepares and generates a variety of periodic and ad-hoc statistical and analytical reports.
  5. Establishes, monitors, and maintains customer services standards within the activity; trains and develops staff and/or volunteers in customer service and customer relation skills.
  6. Establishes and maintains behind-the-scenes processing systems for on-air fund drives and associated initiatives and activities; develops, plans, and oversees membership renewal systems and procedures.
  7. Works with outside vendors in the coordination of direct mail processes.
  8. Recruits, screens, oversees, allocates work, and trains volunteers in both broadcast and non-broadcast activitie associated with pledge drives and other membership development activities and events; coordinates volunteer recognition activies.
  9. Oversees the maintenance of relevant computer software; maintains departmental logs and records.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of processes, systems, and procedures associated with the administration of membership drives and pledge campaigns.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of media fundraising.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations pertaining to CPB and PBS funding.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.
  • Skills in preparing direct mail solicitations.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate volunteers within area of specialty.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
