The following statements are intended to describe, in broad terms, the general functions and responsibility levels characteristic of positions assigned to this classification. Oversees the provision of external constituency-building services to a single University unit. Provides guidance and support to unit faculty and staff in the planning, development, and implementation of fundraising programs and activities, and/or provides broadly-based assistance to more senior development staff in support of the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of donors and sponsors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists and/or participates in direct or indirect donor interaction and in the planning
  2. Designs and/or assists in the design, production, and distribution of fundraising materials and case statements; develops, writes, prepares, and disseminates donor correspondence, and writes and/or assists in the writing of solicitation proposals, as appropriate.
  3. Responds to donor inquiries with accurate and timely information; secures donor gifts, and provides donors with relevant materials.
  4. Plans, coordinates, staffs, and facilitates larger promotional and fundraising activities and events, as assigned.
  5. Provides financial stewardship and reporting to donors; ensures appropriate expenditure of donor funds.
  6. Supervises and trains staff and/or students engaged in support activities, as appropriate.
  7. Organizes and coordinates the activities of volunteers and committees/boards engaged in fundraising activities, as appropriate.
  8. May represent the organization at business and community meetings; may conduct tours and/or give presentations.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) the design, production and distribution of fundraising materials and case statements; b) independent interaction with and leadership of internal constituencies in planning, designing, and implementing fundraising events and programs; c) supervising and training staff and/or students engaged in support activities; d) developing and maintaining comprehensive constituency lists and associated information management systems; and e) providing direct stewardship and maintenance of existing donors and/or sponsors.
