Summary

Develops, directs and/or maintains a marketing program. Serves as a media contact. Writes and/or edits marketing materials such as press releases, brochures, flyers, and other documents. Manages special marketing events.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Determines target markets to expand audience base, and conducts market research activities, including selection of appropriate media for distribution of information.
  2. Responds to requests for information from media personnel and the public; distributes promotional materials, including flyers, brochures, and press kits; disseminates information via the appropriate media.
  3. Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness, prepares program proposals, and produces periodic evaluation reports to management.
  4. Negotiates with vendors and contractors to coordinate media cost, placement, and scheduling.
  5. Designs, writes, and oversees the production of printed promotional materials including catalogs, brochures, flyers, and program and media guides.
  6. Maintains and ensures the accuracy of database records and files, including mailing lists and distribution information.
  7. Provides support for promotional special events such as open houses, book signings, fundraisers, outreach and community events, tours, press conferences, banquets, exhibits, product or service fairs, and athletic events.
  8. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
  9. Assists in the development and management of the department budget; researches and prepares budget proposals.
  10. Promotes community awareness of marketing programs.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of marketing media and funding sources.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate media activities and special events.
  • Ability to plan, assess, and evaluate programs.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to gather, manage and impart information to the media and various other internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Knowledge of data management techniques.
  • Knowledge of printing procedures and requirements.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Planning, monitoring and evaluating marketing program proposals and plans; b) determining target markets to expand audience base, and determining how to reach target market; c) researching and preparing budget proposals for marketing purposes; d) analyzing effectiveness of marketing program(s) and advising management; e) leading and guiding the work of other staff performing marketing functions; and f) negotiating with vendors and contractors to coordinate media placement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
