The following statements are intended to describe, in broad terms, the general functions and responsibility levels characteristic of positions assigned to this classification. Under general supervision, provides technical assistance to transmission and studio staff. Installs, operates, maintains, and repairs broadcast studio equipment, satellite uplink and downlink systems and on air transmission systems. Assists with performing functional and operational testing procedures to ensure quality reception and transmission of KNME-TV/DT products. Assists Engineers with maintaining documentation in compliance with Federal Communication Commission rules and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists with performing preventative and emergency maintenance on all electronic equipment.
Performs modifications in circuitry and installation to adjust for system variables and functions.
Assists in maintaining records and reports as required to document projects and systems installations and maintenance.
Follows standardized protocol and procedures and conducts a variety of complex tests on equipment proposed for use in engineering projects; develops procedures for non-standard tests, as required.
Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art broadcast technology, equipment, and systems.
Designs, implements, and maintains databases using various software applications.
Assists engineers in planning and designing construction projects.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
Knowledge of broadcast systems circuitry, design, and/or installation.
Records maintenance skills.
Skill in the configuration and use of computerized database programs.
Ability to write reports containing technical information.
Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.
Ability to assist with designing, installing, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and/or repairing television broadcast equipment.
Ability to assist with testing systems and/or operations in compliance with published standards.
Conditions of Employment
Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Work involves exposure to high altitudes, tower climbing, extreme temperatures, and other elements related to outdoor environments; requires frequent operation of 4-wheel drive vehicles/snow cats.
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
