Summary

Under general supervision, installs, operates, maintains, and repairs instructional television/professional video, and audio-visual systems and equipment. Develops functional and operational test procedures to ensure quality of classroom and studio electronic systems meet NTSC standards. Maintains documents as required by Media Technology Services and University procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs preventive maintenance and major repairs on instructional television/professional video and audio-visual equipment.
  2. Schedules and documents bi-monthly routine maintenance on all assigned ITV systems equipment.
  3. Designs, installs, and maintains video production equipment in MTS studio and editing facilities and ITV classrooms.
  4. Assumes overall technical responsibility for assigned area.
  5. Assists in developing standard test procedures and equipment to conduct functional and operational tests to evaluate quality and performance of video or audio reception, production, and transmission.
  6. Teaches and trains faculty and students in audio-visual principles, methods, techniques, and equipment operation.
  7. Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and systems to effectively recommend changes, update, and redesign of facilities.
  8. May program and install software and hardware for compressed video satellite communication system.
  9. Identify funding sources, pre-assist in proposal materials, managing sponsored account activity, ensuring ongoing compliance with regulatory and institutional policies.
  10. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
  • Ability to design, install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and/or repair ITV/professional video/audio equipment.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Knowledge of ITV/professional video/audio-visual systems circuitry, design, and/or installation.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to trade craft and/or management personnel.
  • Ability to test systems and/or operations in compliance with published regulation, guidelines, and/or standards.
  • Ability to operate on a scheduled 24-hour on-call basis.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software as related to video systems.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Considerable physical effort. Requires handling of objects that can weigh up to 50 lbs (or greater mass requiring mechanical assistance). Standing/walking may occur more than 50% of time.
  • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
