Summary

Provides and oversees the day-to-day system support, problem analysis and resolution, and user training in relation to the core information systems and applications used in the University's automated transfer articulation system. Serves as the unit's principal point of technical and operational support with respect to data management and database administration. Supervises the daily activities of one or more technical and/or user support staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversees and coordinates the unit's day-to-day user support activities, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of user problems and concerns with respect to Transfer Articulation/Degree Audit Report System (DARS).
  2. Oversees and coordinates the implementation of projects and work requests submitted to the Transfer Articulation/Degree Audit Report System.
  3. Serves as a liaison with the Provost's office to ensure that the State of New Mexico Higher Education Department and the New Mexico State Core Curriculum regulations are properly incorporated into the University transfer policies.
  4. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  5. Serves as the principal point of expertise for the unit on all technical issues associated with data management and database administration; consults with and collaborates as appropriate with users in the structuring and development of data requirements.
  6. Coordinates and monitors data security for the unit; creates and maintains backups, logs, and journals, and coordinates data recovery as needed.
  7. Prepares and delivers or oversees delivery of formal and informal training and instruction to users regarding use of system; creates and maintains user manuals and handbooks, as appropriate.
  8. As appropriate to the position, participates in the development of operating goals and objectives for the unit; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations.
  9. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, policies, and/or systems.
  10. May plan, coordinate, and oversee the design, development, and management of the unit's web site, as appropriate to the needs of the unit.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience with Transfer Articulation/Degree Audit Reporting System.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information effectively to groups.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications.
  • Knowledge of the operational and procedural aspects of computer systems, hardware, software and peripheral equipment.

  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of State statues, University policies, and course transfer standards.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) leadership in Transfer Articulation/DARS systems planning and development, as well as maintenance and administration; b) research and development of University transfer articulation policies and system requirements; c) leadership in the interaction with University technical support, faculty, staff, and students on identification of Transfer Articulation/DARS system requirements and issues, and problem resolution; d) oversight, guidance, and training of lower level degree audit technical staff; and e) leadership in the development and administration of operating policies and procedures.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
