The following statements are intended to describe, in broad terms, the general functions and responsibility levels characteristic of positions assigned to this classification. Under general supervision, prepares drawings of existing facilities, renovations, and new construction of moderate complexity based on verbal instructions, sketches, and/or formal documents.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Obtains basic architectural, civil, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical data from documents, occupant interviews, and field measurements.
  2. Prepares floor plans, site plans, and other drawings for small construction and minor alteration projects using computer aided drafting techniques.
  3. Compiles specifications and contract documents from existing sources for assigned projects.
  4. Performs inspections of existing facilities to determine and verify structural detail, mechanical services, and site layout, and to coordinate construction with plans and specifications.
  5. Assists in preparation of cost estimates and in scheduling construction and renovation projects.
  6. Utilizes state-of-the-art CAD equipment and technology; maintains current knowledge of CAD technology principles and applications.
  7. May participate in updating campus maps.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of contract documents and specifications.
  • Ability to collect field data and accurately record findings.
  • Ability to prepare floor, site, and other architectural plans using CAD drafting techniques.
  • Skill in the use of CAD equipment and software.
  • Ability to perform inspections and make necessary adjustments to conform to job specifications.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    Position requires: a) Preparing floor plans, site plans and other drawings for small construction and minor alteration projects; b) performing inspections of existing facilities to determine and verify structural detail; c) utilizing CAD equipment and technology; and d) Certificate of Competency in Architectural Drafting.

Conditions of Employment

  • A Certificate of Competency in Architectural Drafting may be a requirement for some positions in this classification.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
