Summary

Provides leadership, direction and administrative oversight over the integrated operations and shared strategic objectives of UNM Online and IT Academic Technologies. Serves as a strategic advisor to the Office of the Provost and the Chief Information Officer for Information Technologies in support of the academic mission of the University. Develops, recommends and implements services, policies, and strategies with an institution-wide impact, to include seeking new opportunities to effectively expand online offerings and academic technical solutions that enhance the University's learning environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Integrates academic curriculum and technological solutions strategically to operate and enhance the UNM online programs and offerings, and encourage appropriate technology-based enhancements across the curriculum.
  2. Directs and coordinates the advancement, management and operation of both IT Academic Technologies under the Division of Information Technologies and UNM Online programs under the Division for Academic Affairs.
  3. Serves as key liaison between Division for Academic Affairs and the Division for Information Technologies, advancing the objectives of both organizations and leading joint initiatives as they relate to academic strategy informed by technology capacity and opportunities.
  4. Pursues strategic opportunities to advance the University's academic mission by developing innovative online academic solutions, and by positioning the institution in a manner to expand its enrollment and achieve its graduation goals.
  5. Cultivates collaboration between faculty, academic and technical administrators to provide online offerings in formats meeting student needs.
  6. Provides critical subject matter expertise and advice to institutional leaders regarding market positioning and opportunities to invest time, resources, and staff in viable online and academic technology initiatives.
  7. Designs, establishes and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organizational goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff.
  8. Sets priorities, leads and executes new initiatives, programs and projects.
  9. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses. Drives unit's performance to continual improvement.
  10. Maintains professional contacts with other universities; research entities; city, state, and federal agencies; equipment manufacturers; and professional organizations concerning computer applications and equipment.
  11. Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the organization.
  12. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems. Drives timely adoption of appropriate new technologies.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement short- and long-range systems, capacity, technology, and operational plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully direct, coordinate, and strategically integrate multiple developmental, enhancement, and/or modification projects at an institutional level.
  • Knowledge and understanding of organization structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
  • Knowledge of current developments and trends in university best practices, project management, and related technology.
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in information technology.
  • Skill in business and financial planning and management.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
