The following statements are intended to describe, in broad terms, the general functions and responsibility levels characteristic of positions assigned to this classification. Under limited supervision, provides technical leadership in the development and implementation of information technology initiatives with impact across multiple colleges/schools/divisions. Functions as part of the portfolio of services within the core IT division. Evaluates and recommends information technology solutions to leadership and other professionals. Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, software, and/or systems relative to higher education. Positions in this classification are reserved for units reporting to the Chief Information Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides collaboration, consultation, leadership, and expertise on key projects to both internal and external constituencies on matters within the IT area(s) of focus.
  2. Provides technical leadership and support on a variety of specialized, project-related IT activities.
  3. Participates in evaluations of strategic opportunities pertinent to the objectives of the overall activity for core services projects.
  4. May integrate and supervise the work of other IT professionals.
  5. Researches cost projections of projects and recommends appropriate actions with regards to budget; may assist in the identification of funding sources, and development and preparation of funding proposals.
  6. Researches integrated user project proposals for core information technology services, software, systems, and/or networks as assigned.
  7. Supports the development, implementation, installation, and testing of complex software/systems/networks as assigned.
  8. As part of a team, designs and implements integrated information systems solutions to meet university requirements.
  9. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of computer/computational science, data analysis, and programming technologies, concepts, and techniques.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in area of expertise.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated, creative solutions.

Distinguishing Characteristics

    This position functions as a technical leader for IT-oriented projects across multiple schools/colleges/divisions. Position may require high level of visual and/or auditory acuity. See job posting for additional information.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be required to pass post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Light to moderate physical effort. May require handling of above average-weight objects up to 40 pounds and some standing, walking, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and use of ladders.
  • Work environment may involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
