Summary
Directs and oversees all aspects of the UNM competitive, organized video gaming program, also known as esports program. Directs and oversees the administrative and fiscal management of program activities. Ensures all esports programs are in compliance with rules, regulations, and policies and ensures all programs and initiatives are integrated and effective in supporting the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the institution. Actively supports community outreach and recruitment efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities
Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness and effects changes required for improvement.
Serves as liaison with various internal and external constituencies as appropriate, to include students, parents, school officials, faculty, alumni, and various external agencies.
Represents the University in its recruitment efforts and in providing special outreach services in the community, state, and nation-wide, consistent with governing body rules and regulations.
Coordinates public information and outreach programs and develops sources of financial support at the local, state, and/or national levels.
Manages fiscal administration for the unit, including but not limited to budgets, funding, grants, contracts, payroll, employment, travel, and/or purchasing.
Leads various fundraising, marketing, and promotional activities.
Plans and develops strategies for generating revenues and resources for the University's esports unit while promoting public support for activities and athletes.
Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience with esports as player or staff.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to assess and evaluate program areas to better organize resources and build strategic plans.
Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with a diverse range of both internal and external constituencies.
Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
Knowledge of fundraising and development principles, methods, and techniques.
Ability to foster an open and welcoming environment to all student-athletes.
Thorough working knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sport.
Conditions of Employment
Employees in this job title are considered term employees. Term end date is one year from date of hire with renewal contingent upon performance and/or budget.
Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
