Summary
Leads and manages the logistics of an intercollegiate Division I Major Sports program, as assigned by the Head Coach. Oversees the day-to-day responsibilities of the Head Coach, including direct supervision over assigned areas and personnel. Represents the Head Coach to various areas of the Athletics Department, University, and external constituencies. Directs and leads a range of activities on behalf of the Head Coach, which may include donor relations, videography, game day operations and/or strategy, athlete academic success initiatives, scheduling, and community service programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees day-to-day activities under the Head Coach of an intercollegiate Division I Major Sports program, such as Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball or Football, as assigned by the Head Coach; may directly oversee and lead specified areas of the operation, where appropriate.
Serves as an extension of the Head Coach in various areas of the athletics department and external constituencies, which may include representation in the areas of fundraising, marketing, community service, liaising with opponent teams, academic success initiatives, recruitment, representation to press and media affiliates, etc.
Provides strategic leadership, administrative management, and day-to-day operational coordination to critical components of the program, to include NCAA compliance, student athlete academic monitoring and progress assessment, and community outreach activities.
Collaborates with Athletics Development personnel to solicit and engage donors, plan and implement fundraising events, and promote the overall success of the sport program.
Supports the Head Coach with a range of game operations, which may include videography, game strategy, non-conference scheduling for the sport program, and contract negotiations.
Provides consultation and guidance to the Head Coach and coaching staff with respect to the overall evaluation of prospective student athletes; may lead and/or oversee recruitment activities and initiatives for the sport program.
Serves as a point of contact and liaison with local, state, and national agencies and organizations such as the New Mexico Athletic Association (NMAA), the NCAA, and other professional coaching associations.
Identifies, recommends, and participates in synergistic, professional growth and development opportunities with respect to other coaching staff members, in support of the achievement of overall program goals and objectives.
Establishes and implements short- and long-range operational goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness and effects changes required for improvement.
Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Knowledge and understanding of the unique strategic, programmatic, and operational requirements of a Division I program.
Knowledge and understanding of the current and emerging psychosocial issues facing college-level student athletes.
Knowledge of NCAA academic and behavioral rules, regulations, guidelines, and standards for student-athletes
Knowledge of NCAA recruiting rules and student-athlete eligibility requirements.
Strategic planning and advanced leadership skills.
Skill in examining and evaluating operations and developing and/or re-engineering operating strategies, systems, and procedures.
Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills.
Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
Ability to serve as a representative at community or business functions.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and a variety of volunteers.
Ability to provide administrative advice and guidance to professional staff and management.

Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
