Summary

Directs and oversees coaching duties for the UNM competitive, organized video gaming program, also known as esports program, consistent with all operating bylaws and regulations. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletic competition and program competitions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Directs all aspects, areas, and components of the esports team. Coordinates all strategic aspects of the esports program.
  2. Organizes, prepares, and conducts individual and team practices, training, and competition.
  3. Recruits student-athletes through scouting and attending events.
  4. Represents sports program to various institutional programs and externally as appropriate.
  5. Oversees audio and visual equipment usage; assists users with set-up and operation of equipment.
  6. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  7. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience with esports as player or staff.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to foster an open and welcoming environment to all student-athletes.
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sport.
  • Knowledge of current and developing trends in esports technology, methodology, and techniques.
  • Ability to effectively analyze programs and events and recommend opportunities for improvement and growth.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees in this job title are considered term employees. Term end date is one year from date of hire with renewal contingent upon performance and/or budget.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
