Summary

Oversees all aspects of the facilities and equipment room operations for UNM intercollegiate Division I Major Sports program. Provides operational leadership for athletic equipment management, apparel inventory, game-day setup, and facility coordination. Leads and implements key projects and serves as a central resource for operational planning, support, and execution.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversees the day-to-day operations of athletic equipment rooms and sports facility logistics for UNM intercollegiate Division I Major Sports program.
  2. Develops, implements, and enforces policies and procedures for equipment distribution, maintenance, sanitation, and inventory control.
  3. Oversees procurement processes for uniforms, equipment, and supplies, including vendor relations, budget tracking, and purchase order approvals.
  4. Determines equipment and uniform needs. Generates purchase orders and oversees procurement, ensuring adherence to allocated budget and policy guidelines.
  5. Establishes, maintains, and reconciles inventories of athletic uniforms and equipment; ensures accurate records are maintained.
  6. Oversees uniform and equipment distribution, retrieval, and storage at practices and on game day.
  7. Ensures that all uniforms, apparel, and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition. Coordinates repairs and replacements as needed.
  8. Leads and guides the work of lower level staff, and supervises student employees as appropriate; may participate in hiring decisions and performance appraisal.
  9. Assists in departmental problem solving, project planning, and the development and execution of departmental goals and objectives.
  10. Establishes priorities, timelines, and procedures for operational projects and ensures alignment with institutional objectives.
  11. Serves as a key advisor and resource for staff, coaches, and faculty regarding operational policies, systems, and best practices.
  12. Oversees designated business or operational functions within department, as assigned.
  13. May serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  14. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of athletic, mechanical, and electronic equipment, supplies, and/or uniform repair.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures within specialty area.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Organizing and coordinating skills.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

  • Compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required in this position.
  • Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
