Summary

Develops and coordinates crime prevention programs and services for the UNM community. Facilitates crime awareness and prevention strategies. Conducts presentations and training sessions to the Zone Captains and Building Managers to address crime issues on and surrounding the UNM campuses. Coordinates and liaisons with various leadership across UNM and external crime prevention organizations such as Project ECHO Nob Hill, the Albuquerque Police Department, University area command, crime prevention specialists, the University of New Mexico Hospital Security Services, and other private agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develops, implements, and manages a variety of crime prevention services and programs for the UNM community.
  2. Coordinates and conducts awareness seminars and other training with the use of the Mark 43 crime mapping to stakeholders of crime issues.
  3. Establishes, promotes, and maintains contacts with the campus community. Identifies areas of concern, and designs and implements instructional courses to address specific campus community needs.
  4. Serves as a liaison, within area of assignment, between the University of New Mexico Police Department and the Albuquerque Police Department University Sub Station.
  5. Schedules, coordinates and facilitates various campus meetings, programs, seminars, and other functions related to crime prevention.
  6. Disseminates quarterly Campus Watch newsletters, crime prevention materials, and other relevant information to citizens, businesses, and other campus groups.
  7. Promotes and coordinates specific activities within crime prevention, personal safety. through the use and education of phone applications, police escorts and use of campus blue phones including coordinating with UNM Police PIO, and Social Media Coordinators.
  8. Conducts analytical and statistical analysis of campus crime data and prepares related reports and recommendations.
  9. Establishes and maintains files of presentations, training sessions, and community meetings.
  10. Orders, purchases, updates, and designs materials for the Campus Watch crime prevention program; serves as advisor and resource to area groups and associations.
  11. Responds to UNM community inquiries in a courteous manner and provides information withing the area of assignment. Resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  12. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Light physical effort; requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 lbs or some standing and/or walking.
