Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, this position promotes campus safety and security by leading a specialized team responsible for assessing and managing potential threats to the university community related to the student population. Collaborates with various stakeholders including: Police, Legal, Mental Health, Emergency Management, Equal Opportunity, Dean of Students', Student Affairs departments and other staff and faculty as needed. Creates CARE plans and manages case management duties related to student CARE cases.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leads and coordinates University student CARE programs. Evaluates reports related to students of concern, assesses potential risk(s) to campus safety, and identifies appropriate courses of action.
Gathers and assesses data from diverse origins, such as incident reports, security personnel, academic staff, Student Affairs personnel, and other relevant parties, to form a thorough comprehension of a student case.
Follows industry standards to appropriately evaluate reports, create follow-up actions, and facilitate case management and documentation regarding students.
Assigns cases, CARE actions, and tasks to members of the interdisciplinary student CARE team.
In collaboration with relevant authorities, develops and implements crisis management plans for high-risk situations, including health and wellness checks, behavioral expectations, and behavior management plans for students.
Facilitates effective communication and information sharing among team members and other relevant stakeholders, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to privacy regulations.
Maintains detailed and accurate records of threat assessment and student CARE cases, documenting the team's actions, decisions, and follow-up activities.
Collaborates with external agencies, law enforcement, mental health professionals, and other community resources to access additional student CARE measures, supports, and expertise as needed.
Plans, coordinates, promotes, and organizes trainings, promotional events and programs to educate students, staff, and faculty on supporting and addressing student behaviors and concerns.
Contributes to the development and enhancement of university policies and procedures related to threat assessments, interventions, provisions of care, and emergency response.
Serves as a member of the University Threat Assessment Team (TAT), as a representative for student issues as they may pertain to threat assessment and threat management.
May serve as a Respondent Support Specialist, who works with respondents in Title IX cases through the Compliance Ethics and Equal Opportunity Office.
May supervise undergraduate, graduate, or professional staff.
Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Demonstrated experience in threat assessment, case management, risk management, or crisis intervention.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to manage sensitive situations with tact and empathy.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and handle high-pressure situations calmly and professionally.
Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements related to threat assessment and campus safety.
Familiarity with emergency response protocols and crisis management procedures.
Leadership and team management skills to guide a multidisciplinary group of professionals.
Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications, including database management and reporting tools.
