Summary
Reporting to the Director of Crisis Management and Preparedness, plays a critical role in promoting campus safety and security by leading a specialized team responsible for assessing and managing potential threats to the university community. Collaborates with various stakeholders including: Police, Legal, Mental Health, Emergency Management, Human Resources, Equal Opportunity, Dean of Students' and Provost's Offices. Facilitates discussions of evidence and documents findings of facts.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates and leads the University Threat Assessment Team, consisting of representatives from different departments, to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to threat assessment and management.
Coordinates and leads the University's CARE program. Evaluates reports of concerning behavior, incidents, or activities involving members of the university community, assesses potential risk(s) to campus safety, and identifies appropriate courses of action.
Collects and analyzes data from various sources, including incident reports, security personnel, academic staff, and other stakeholders, to develop a comprehensive understanding of potential threats.
Utilizes a structured threat assessment model to determine the level of risk posed by individuals or situations and develops appropriate intervention strategies.
In collaboration with relevant authorities, develops and implements crisis management plans for high-risk situations, ensuring the safety of the university community during critical incidents.
Facilitates effective communication and information sharing among team members and other relevant stakeholders, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to privacy regulations.
Maintains detailed and accurate records of threat assessment cases, documenting the team's actions, decisions, and follow-up activities.
Collaborates with external agencies, law enforcement, mental health professionals, and other community resources to access additional care meansures, support, and expertise as needed.
Contributes to the development and enhancement of university policies and procedures related to threat assessments, interventions, provisions of care, and emergency response.
Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Demonstrated experience in threat assessment, risk management, or crisis intervention, preferably in an educational or law enforcement setting.
Strong knowledge of mental health issues, behavioral indicators of concern, and violence risk assessment methodologies.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to manage sensitive situations with tact and empathy.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and handle high-pressure situations calmly and professionally.
Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements related to threat assessment and campus safety.
Familiarity with emergency response protocols and crisis management procedures.
Leadership and team management skills to guide a multidisciplinary group of professionals.
Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications, including database management and reporting tools.
