Summary

Provides parking services, public relations services, enforcement of parking regulations, and traffic control throughout campus. Monitors security of campus parking facilities. Assists with special events parking arrangements. Assists with field supervision of parking operations, and report preparation.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Patrols parking lots and parking structures and reports the existence of hazardous conditions.
2. Issues parking citations to drivers of illegally parked vehicles.
3. Attaches vehicle boots and arranges towing services for vehicles as necessary.
4. Prepares and maintains CAD maps.
5. Provides information and other general assistance to the university community and its visitors.
6. Assists in traffic and crowd control activities.
7. Participates in the preparation of periodic scheduled and ad hoc parking system reports; gathers data and prepares recommendations regarding system usage.
8. Assists in monitoring enforcement activities and contract security. This may include recommendations for hiring, training, work allocation and problem resolution.
9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to observe, assess, and record hazardous conditions in parking areas/structures.
• Ability to resolve difficult or stressful customer service issues.
• Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
• Knowledge of public events safety and crowd control principles, procedures, regulations, and standards.
• Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
• Knowledge of CAD mapping program.
• Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Position requires: a) Assisting in maintaining enforcement activity and contract security. This may include recommendations for hiring, training, work allocation and problem resolution; b) Preparing periodic schedule and ad hoc system reports; c) Gathering data and preparing recommendations regarding system usage; and d) Use of CAD software to prepare and maintain maps.

Conditions of Employment

• Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
• All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
• Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
