Summary

Provides housekeeping services and coordinates the provision of maintenance services at the University House. Participates in the coordination of special events held at the University House and performs a variety of activities to ensure the cleanliness, safety and proper working order of the University House.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides housekeeping services for the University House to ensure the cleanliness, safety and proper working order of all living areas.
  2. Performs a variety of cleaning activities such as dusting, mopping, kitchen cleaning, window washing, vacuuming, washing and ironing linens, tablecloths, napkins, and other items as needed.
  3. Coordinates and may oversee repair, maintenance and landscaping activities, as appropriate to include the coordination of safety inspections, submitting work orders and scheduling repairs.
  4. Maintains University House calendar to include repairs, events, visitors, tours, and activities. Communicates directly with numerous divisions within the Physical Plant Department, catering services, university departments, and outside vendors to coordinate and schedule.
  5. Provides support and coordination activities in preparation for, and during, special events held at the University House as needed.
  6. Purchases groceries and orders supplies as needed.
  7. May lead or guide other staff or volunteers performing related work.
  8. May prepare or assist in the preparation of a wide variety of food items for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and receptions held at University House.
  9. May participate in activities related to the care and well-being of house pets.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Less than high school; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of laundry cleaning procedures.
  • Knowledge of culinary practices.
  • Ability to perform housekeeping activities.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all communications on behalf of University House, its occupants and guests.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to a pre-placement medical clearance through Employee Occupational Health Services.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work may be performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
