Summary

Under general supervision, designs, implements, and oversees behavioral analytic services provided to individuals with developmental disabilities presenting with challenging behavior, comorbid mental health issues, educational concerns, autism spectrum disorder, and other needs. Supervises board certified behavior analysts. Educates and consults with families of clients, schools, community programs, and/or other populations. Provides direct patient care in a variety of settings, including client homes, as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develops and manages clinical framework for behavior analytic services.
  2. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, dismissing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  3. Provides comprehensive support and guidance regarding the activities of other employees performing the same or related duties.
  4. Provides training in applied behavior analysis theory and associated techniques to parents, professionals, paraprofessionals, and other community stakeholders.
  5. Collaborates effectively with family members and professionals from other disciplines to promote consistent intervention and maximize outcomes.
  6. Conducts a wide array of functional behavior assessments, skills assessments, needs assessments, and experimental functional analyses for a range of challenging behavior.
  7. Designs and implements treatment protocols and programs to decrease maladaptive behavior.
  8. Prepares assessment and professional reports that outline findings and describe highly-individualized intervention recommendations and ongoing results.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines regarding services provided to individuals with autism spectrum disorders and other mental health concerns.
  • Knowledge of funding sources for services specific to individuals with autism spectrum disorders and other mental health concerns.
  • Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners and/or the general public.
  • Knowledge of educational assessments, practices, and regulations regarding populations receiving specialized care.
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic theory and techniques specific to children with developmental disabilities, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state of New Mexico.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • A valid driver's license, or ability to obtain a valid driver's license within thirty days of hire, is required for this job.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • Fingerprinting, and subsequent clearance, may be required for this position depending on assignment.
  • May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Light physical activity. Requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
