Summary

Provides clinical supervision in speech-language pathology to graduate students in practicum programs. Teaches and advises undergraduate students, conducts research, and/or educates and consults with families of patients.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supervises the speech-language evaluation and treatment services provided by graduate students engaged in completion of clinical practicum requirements.
2. Confers with graduate students to provide feedback, to support clinical work, and to develop clinical skills.
3. Coordinates and schedules clinical activities.
4. Performs direct patient care as appropriate and consults with families of patients regarding home therapy programs and techniques.
5. Advises undergraduate and non-degree students; prepares and presents curriculum and workshops in a classroom setting.
6. May manage clinic budgets and billing.
7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Master's degree in Speech Pathology or an equivalent discipline; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology; State of New Mexico Licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

• Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
• Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques.
• Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.
• Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the client.
• Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
• Ability to evaluate and treat speech, language, and hearing disorders.
• Knowledge of speech-language pathology theory and practice.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.

Conditions of Employment

• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
• Must maintain certification status.
• Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• No or very limited physical effort required.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
