Summary
Oversees, directs, and administers the operations of the Radiation Oncology area, to include management of staff, development and implementation of policies and procedures, program development and implementation, budget management, and day-to-day administration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assures consistent, quality patient care for all radiation oncology patient services. This includes meeting all regulatory agency standards, as well as standards set by the Department Quality Management Plan.
Manages all business, administrative, technical, and operational services for all radiation oncology patient services. Ensures all quality, patient care, patient access, financial, and business goals/objectives are achieved.
Oversees clinical, performance, and strategic service standards and measures. Develops and monitors departmental quality of service plan, implements staff development, and ensures staff competencies.
Plans, develops, evaluates, and improves systems, processes and protocols for the delivery of radiation/oncology services in conjunction with key leadership stakeholders. Manages change effectively.
Ensures departmental service, value, quality, cost, and access are consistent with established standards and/or goals.
Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with all levels of staff, physicians, and administrators.
Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, dismissing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
Identifies and implements strategies to reduce and/or manage costs and improve service effectiveness and productivity. Accountable for compliance/adherence to all local, state, and federal rules, regulations, standards, and legislation regarding radiation.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Associate's degree from a JRCERT-accredited Radiation Therapy program; minimum five years supervisory experience. Certification/Licensure: American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) certification and State of New Mexico licensed radiation therapist.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications.
Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
Knowledge of radiation therapy methodologies, technologies, equipment, procedures, and standards.
Knowledge of the physical and operational characteristics of radiation equipment and facilities.
Knowledge of the nature and treatments of oncological diseases and of reactions and side effects of related therapy methods.
Knowledge of dosimetry and dosage standards.
Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
Demonstrated ability to work in a teamwork environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of radiation safety and protection regulations as well as relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Must maintain certification status.
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Must maintain certification and/or licensure status.
Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
CPR Certified.
May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
