Summary
Provides oversight of the IT electronic security and alarm area including the installation, maintenance and operational readiness of building fire alarm systems, electronic premises security systems including intrusion detection, video surveillance, asset protection, environmental detection, holdup/duress, integrated systems and the alarm monitoring station for the University.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
Plans, organizes, and schedules work of security and alarms technicians.
Develops specifications for system installations; estimates and purchases materials for completion of projects.
Inspects and approves installations.
Reconciles departmental budget and processes customer billing and contractor or vendor invoices per departmental policies.
Develops confidentiality recordkeeping procedures and manages appropriate department records in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and standards.
Provides plan and design document review for building construction and renovation.
Collaborates with the New Mexico Fire Marshal, construction trades inspectors, insurance companies and UNM Facilities Management to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations.
Prepares scope of work and procures and supervises contractor or vendor services.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: State of New Mexico ES-3J Journeyman Low Voltage Special Systems (under 50 volts).
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.
Basic knowledge of computer server operating systems.
Basic knowledge of IP network technologies.
Ability to prepare engineering documents, specifications and cost estimates for projects.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
Ability to install and perform routine maintenance and repairs of fire alarm, electronic premises security systems and alarm monitoring station operating software and equipment.
Ability to perform inspections and/or approve installations.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Knowledge of costing and pricing methodology.
Knowledge of project management principles and methodologies.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Employee development and performance management skills.
Conditions of Employment
Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.
Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
