Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Campus Capital & Space Planning, leads the University's inventory of physical space and space optimization strategies. Develops, coordinates, and implements processes and projects related to space utilization across the University.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manages and coordinates space allocation for the University's asset management program. Provides reports, benchmark metrics, and presentations. Provides recommendations regarding space allocation requests and assignments.
  2. Works with leadership on the planning and construction of new buildings and all major renovations/repairs of existing facilities. Provides space planning activities with other internal agencies that share campus facility management responsibilities.
  3. Provides strategic direction and coordination regarding space utilization to increase sustainability of the University's building inventory. Coordinates with Facilities Management and Campus Planning to prioritize projects to address routine physical depreciation.
  4. Maintains and ensures the accuracy of database records and files, including space inventory, utilization, and allocation.
  5. Develops and implements best practices, strategies, and standards for space allocation and utilization across the institution.
  6. Participates in the development of annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction to the unit.
  7. Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
  8. Oversees the Supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  9. Recommends and participates in the development of University policies and procedures; may serve on University planning and policy-making committees.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of space allocation practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of space utilization and efficiency practices and principles for higher education.
  • Ability to lead, guide, coordinate, and facilitate strategic planning processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of computerized facility management systems, applications, and tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of strategic facilities development concepts and principles at an institutional level.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated, creative solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
