Summary
Oversees planning, development, coordination, implementation, and management of engineering and energy services activities for UNM campus buildings, infrastructure, and facilities. Oversees the engineering component of strategic planning of buildings and infrastructure, campus physical plant projects, and renewal of the existing campus environment. Directs the Engineering Support program for the University's Physical Plant and Project Management departments, and directs the development and operation of the University's energy management system.
Duties and Responsibilities
Directs and coordinates a multidisciplined staff of facilities engineers engaged in the the development, design, and planning of systems to increase the quality and efficiency of services provided.
Approves plans, specifications, and design strategies for engineering and utility projects submitted by design and/or engineering consultants.
Reviews and approves construction drawings for capital projects to ensure compliance with UNM policies and standards.
Directs the development, operation, and management of the University's Energy Management System to ensure optimum facility performance campus-wide.
Directs the commissioning of energy systems in new capital projects and existing facilities.
Assists in the initiation of strategic energy projects, evaluation of referred projects, selection of projects, management of project implementation, and monitoring of results.
Develops and establishes engineering and energy services policies, objectives, and systems consistent with the achievement of overall UNM goals, objectives, and strategic plans.
Directs the development of utilities master plans for all campuses, and coordinates planning requirements with technical consultants, other Physical Plant units, and representatives of various user components, as appropriate.
Oversees the project management of utility and engineering construction projects, as assigned, to ensure that quality, budget, and scheduling requirements are achieved.
Serves as the University's primary source of engineering expertise; provides high-level engineering consultation and systems design services, and oversees, coordinates, and monitors the quality of internal engineering consulting services provided to faculty and staff.
Oversees quality assurance for construction projects, and performs on-site construction inspections; develops and implements remedial action programs as appropriate.
Develops and manages the unit's annual operating and assigned project budgets.
Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Assists in the development and implementation of University design and construction standards; ensures compliance with University standards, as well as with local, state, and federal codes and ordinances.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a directly related Engineering field; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Certification/Licensure
Current Professional Engineer License.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
New Mexico certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) is required within 6 months of date of hire.
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Must maintain Professional Engineer License.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Moderate physical activity. May require physical effort including lifting up to 25 pounds and some extended periods of standing or walking.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
