Summary

Under general supervision, oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operational activities of the University's surplus property and recycling activities, as well as all shipping and receiving and glass sterilization activities. Provides functional leadership and administrative supervision to a varied team of employees engaged in these activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  2. Organizes, schedules, and coordinates the daily workload for each activity to ensure that all areas are adequately staffed, work is assigned, and resources are available to meet performance objectives and deadlines.
  3. Coordinates work assignments with customers and outside vendors to ensure achievement of departmental service objectives and standards.
  4. Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the unit; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
  5. Develops operating goals and objectives for the unit; implements and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the unit.
  6. Develops day-to-day recordkeeping systems and manages operational records as appropriate.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Knowledge of basic glass sterilization principles, procedures, and standards.
  • Knowledge of shipping and receiving and materials recycling processes and procedures.

  • Ability to interact creatively with external vendors and agencies to enhance effectiveness of operations and achieve objectives.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work may, on occasion, involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
