Summary
Under indirect supervision, serves as the general manager of and top leadership for KUNM and associated radio station broadcastings, online digital platforms, programs, and operations. Provides leadership and direction in the strategic development and funding programs and activities, and compliance with all rules and regulations governing public broadcasting entities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees and manages the integrated day-to-day operations of multiple radio broadcast facilities and associated digital services, to include program development, production, outreach and education, marketing and funding, finance and human resources, broadcast engineering and operations, regulatory compliance, and reporting.
Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
Serves as chief advocate on behalf of the station to potential donors, including foundations, corporations, capital campaign participants, program sponsors, underwriters, and individual givers; actively participates in strategic funding initiatives, and actively pursuing contracts and grants from various agencies.
Develops and implements total program and production efforts, including acquisition, schedule development, proposal writing, creation of production projects, and contract negotiations; directs the production process.
Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Represents the organization at various University, community and business meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.
Oversees and participates in the development of annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction to the unit.
Ensures compliance with university policies and mandates of local, state, and federal agencies, including the Federal Communications Commission.
Develops and implements initiatives to expand audience services, improve facilities, and update broadcasting and digital technologies.
Leads the development and maintenance of operational technical systems which effectively coordinate the scheduling of facilities necessary to carry out the on-air and digital services of the stations and production of programs and services.
Develops and implements research activities related to program design and scheduling and audience analysis.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Knowledge and understanding of the mission and goals of public radio broadcast and digital services.
Knowledge of FCC and CPB regulations and standards.
Knowledge of techniques and operations for radio broadcasting and digital services, programming, marketing, facilities, and equipment.
Ability to maintain, develop, and/or modify systems, techniques, and procedures for the scheduling of broadcast programming and digital services.
Knowledge of current and developing trends in broadcast and digital technologies, methodologies, and techniques.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations, and university financial policies and procedures.
Knowledge of budget preparation, cost estimating, monitoring, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
Knowledge of contracts and grants preparation and management.

Conditions of Employment
Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
