Summary
Leads the planning and design or installation and maintenance of broadcast, transmission and/or satellite systems and integrates equipment into existing systems to support broadcast continuity. Develops, implements, and oversees policies, practices, and operating procedures, ensuring compliance with University policy and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees all facets of daily operations for area of responsibility, ensuring compliance with the University, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations.
Leads the design and/or integration of technical equipment into broadcast and transmission systems; resolves technical installation and operational issues, trains operating personnel, and develops technical procedures.
May oversee the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Continuously reviews and evaluates internal operating processes, facilities, systems, and procedures for effectiveness, efficiency and responsiveness to operational requirements; develops and implements changes and enhancements, as appropriate.
Plans, organizes, and manages major studio construction projects; researches and advises management of capital requirements, and participates in the development of project budgets, grants, and bid specifications.
Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
Works with other departments in the development and implementation of special projects; participates in interdepartmental operational and planning discussions.
Participates in the development of annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction to the unit.
Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
Participates in professional workshops, seminars, and associations on a local, state, or regional basis; may provide guidance to external constituencies.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: Society for Broadcast Engineers (SBE) certification as a Certified Broadcast Technologist (CBTE) or equivalent obtained within 12 months of hire.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Ability to design, specify, build, modify, and adapt broadcasting systems.
Knowledge of broadcast systems preventative maintenance procedures and techniques.
Knowledge of laws, regulations, methods, and techniques in area of specialty.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
