Summary

Under the direction of the Chief University Marketing and Communications Officer, directs and leads institutional web communication efforts, initiatives, and projects. Ensures major University webpages and social media platforms align with the institutional voice of the University and with best practices related to web architecture, design, usability, functionality, accessibility, and mobile formats. Expands portfolio of oversight to departments across the institution and leads a team of professional and technical personnel in the delivery of exceptional support services. Advises executive leaders and University constituents regarding trends, best practices, effective web strategies, and opportunities to enhance the use of critical web resources and platforms. Leads and coordinates institutional policy-making committees and ensures adherence to University web standards and guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Directs and oversees institutional web communication efforts to ensure effective website architecture, design, flow, and user navigation.
  2. Leads, directs and/or coordinates large-scale, University-wide initiatives involving new site creation, development and implementation of tools and resources, and other technical, graphic and/or content-related improvements.
  3. Manages all web communication activities for major, highly visible University webpages, such as the institutional landing page, executive search sites, campus safety notifications, and pages related to the President and Board of Regents.
  4. Monitors, plans, and coordinates institutional social media activities for University accounts, ensuring consistency and quality of the University's voice on social media platforms; advises University leaders on best practices to leverage social media effectively.
  5. Serves as a subject-matter expert and advisor to executive leaders and institutional constituents regarding web trends and website design, functionality, usability, navigation, accessibility, and mobile-friendly conversion; designs, delivers, and/or coordinates trainings, tools, and resources to support effective web activities across the University.
  6. Expands support services to departments on main campus, branch campuses and the health sciences to support quality of University websites and alignment with institutional brand; develops, negotiates and implements service level agreements and costing structures; manages work assignment, ticketing systems and billing, receiving, and reconciling of accounts, etc.
  7. Develops, compiles and reviews reports and analytics regarding the University's web presence and effectiveness to executive and departmental leaders.
  8. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  9. Serves on various departmental and University policy-making committees; participates directly in the formulation of policies and institutional guidelines and standards.
  10. Serves as an operational back-up to the Chief University Marketing and Communications Officer on matters related to the day-to-day management of the University Communications and Marketing Department, as needed and appropriate to the position.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to apply web design principles and techniques to the creation and enhancement of integrated, complex web sites.
  • Extensive experience with and knowledge of web communications, web site architecture, best practices and emerging web trends.
  • Strong strategic planning and management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading large projects with multiple stakeholders and managing project teams.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
