Summary

Serves as a member of the department's senior leadership team that is committed to excellence and advancing the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics through its strategic planning and vision. The position will have responsibility for the following areas: management and coordination of external units and functions including strategic communications, media relations, brand management, marketing, fan experience, creative services, and ticketing and sales. The position will also be responsible for development of revenue generation initiatives, which include strategic partnerships and external contracts such as multi-media rights, apparel partner, licensing, merchandising, and other business contracts as applicable to revenue generation. Serves as the liaison for the Lobo Club and reports directly to the Director of Athletics. Serves as sport administrator for specified NCAA Division I team sports programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the overseeing of the day to day operations of the Athletic Department.
  2. Directs and oversees all marketing and promotions activities and initiatives for the department.
  3. Serves as principal Athletic Department liaison with external contracts and revenue generating initiatives.
  4. Serves as liaison for the Athletic Department Multimedia Rights partnership; corporate sponsorships.
  5. Oversees UNM's Trademark and Licensing; oversees the branding of Lobo Athletics promotional products and merchandise.
  6. Oversees the Lobo Club, a non-profit organization that raises funds to provide financial support for the Athletic Department and for Student-Athletes.
  7. Oversees all communications and the official athletic department website.
  8. Oversees Lobo TV and Social Media strategies for the department.
  9. Oversees all athletic ticketing services; oversees and coordinates group, and season ticket sales as well as overall ticket revenue for the department.
  10. Develops strategies and promotional initiatives designed to increase program revenue and generate enthusiasm among supporters of Lobo Athletics, alumni, and/or alumni letterman.
  11. Oversees and monitors all fiscal and administrative affairs for all external units; oversees the supervision of unit staff, evaluates staff performance, and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  12. Serves as sports coordinator for one or more NCAA Division I team sports, to include sport budget and personnel management, NCAA/MWC compliance, and team athletic/academic performance.
  13. Establishes and implements long- and short-range departmental goals, objectives, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.
  14. Represents the department and its programs to various institutional divisions.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.

  • Knowledge of a range of major and minor intercollegiate athletics activities, strategic planning and programs.

  • Knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources to plan, develop, and implement.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to utilize advertising and/or sales promotion techniques.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of product branding principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of communications and public relations principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated skill in the management and coordination of an athletics ticketing operations and service.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines for the administration of a ticketing operation.

  • Skills in business development, budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Exceptional program planning and executive leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of all operational and administrative aspects of managing NCAA Division I team sports games.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NCAA and MWC rules and regulations, compliance standards and reporting requirements.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees in this job title are subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract. Employment contracts are typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.
  • Compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required in this position.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
