Summary
Under limited supervision, provides strong management, strategy and integrated sales and marketing expertise to the organization. Develops, leads, and implements marketing and sales strategies and sales programs, activities, and initiatives to enhance the activities and success of the University of New Mexico Press. Oversees, manages, and coordinates the activities of internal support staff, as well as external contractors operating on a commissioned and/or fee-based agreement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develops, and implements an integrated range of marketing concepts and methodologies; plans and develops marketing and sales strategies consistent with the overall goals and objectives of the business.
Develops and manages annual sales and operating budgets, and regularly monitors performance to budget parameters.
Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
Directs, oversees, monitors, and evaluates the activities marketing and sales staff, including the activities of external contractors operating on a commissioned and/or fee-based sales representatives.
Provides market research and analysis; prepares research-based reports and sales forecasts for senior management.
Assumes marketing responsibility for all publicity, advertising, direct mail, catalogs, exhibits, awards, author communications, and website management for the enterprise.
Performs direct customer sales in key areas; promotes and maintains customer relations with major accounts nation-wide.
Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
Represents the enterprise at conferences, meetings, exhibits, and other special events; promotes new and existing programs and initiatives.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
Ability to develop and implement comprehensive marketing goals, strategies, and plans.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
Comprehensive knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, and methodologies.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Knowledge of market research and sales forecasting principles and methodologies.
Ability to develop and manage sales and operating budgets.
Ability to compile and analyze statistical data, draw inferences, and prepare strategic and operational reports and recommendations.
Advanced direct sales skills.
Ability to foster a cooperative environment and to work in a collegial fashion with peers in other organizational units.
Skill in organizing resources, analyzing and solving problems, establishing priorities, and making evaluative judgements.
Knowledge of publishing principles, methods, and processes.
Conditions of Employment
Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
