Summary

Under general supervision, manages underwriting and sales activities including supervision of contracts, direct sales, customer relations, vendor relations, and related financial performance. Supervises sales representatives and monitors sales in relation to goals. Prepares and delivers sales materials; attends exhibits and other promotional opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manages underwriting and sales operations, including the activities of sales representatives or contractors, negotiation of agreements, and monitoring of contracts.
  2. Develops and supervises the preparation, issuance, and delivery of sales materials, exhibits, and promotion programs; represents the unit at exhibits, conferences, meetings, and other outreach events.
  3. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, dismissing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  4. Sells to and maintains contact with major accounts; promotes positive relations with outlets, wholesalers, vendors, partners, and other stakeholders.
  5. Develops operating goals and objectives for the unit; implements and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the unit.
  6. Assists in the annual budget planning process and regularly monitors expenditures.
  7. Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of sales, methods, costs, and results; approves display content and cost proposals.
  8. Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the unit; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
  9. Maintains and monitors sales records; oversees agreement processing, order management, and contract ful?llment functions to ensure accurate, timely customer services.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of retail and/or wholesale sales principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Ability to negotiate and manage contractual arrangements.
  • Knowledge of broadcast software: entering sales contracts, preparing and accepting program logs, billing, and all aspects of traffic software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement a range of sales promotion programs and/or events.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to make evaluative judgments.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of cost analysis techniques.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to analyze and apply market research data.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • May require regular in-state travel.
