Summary
Under limited supervision, supports the University by managing day-to-day communications activities, coordinating media relations, and overseeing the development of written and digital content within either the University Communication and Marketing Department or the HSC Communication and Marketing Department. Supervises assigned communications staff and ensures materials produced for internal and external audiences are clear, accurate, timely, and aligned with UNM's brand and messaging guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manages and oversees the day-to-day communications operations for assigned core units.
Oversees production of written content, including news releases, announcements, web content, internal communications, and collateral materials.
Coordinates with the appropriate stakeholders and leadership to respond to media inquiries, schedule interviews, and prepare background materials.
Establishes and implements long- and short-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.
Ensures all communications adhere to UNM brand standards, AP Style, and accessibility guidelines.
Maintains strong working relationships with campus partners and assists units in implementing communications plans, in alignment with strategy from core leadership.
Monitors workload, project timelines, and content calendars; maintains organized systems for communications requests.
Supports response efforts for issues by preparing factual summaries, drafting basic statements, and coordinating appropriate leadership.
Assists in gathering metrics and preparing routine reports on communications activities.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of communications practices, media relations, and content development.
Skill in writing, editing, proofreading, and preparing materials for publication.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Knowledge of AP Style and digital communications standards.
Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Effective collaboration with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Ability to work with web content systems, media monitoring tools, and standard office software.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
