Summary

Under limited supervision, leads the set-up, operations, and monitoring of a range of television broadcast equipment, ensuring compliance with Federal Communication Commission (FCC) rules and regulations. Leads and provides functional direction to support personnel and serves as a technical subject-matter expert on technical and operational issues. Maintains documentation in accordance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations and University policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Coordinates all facets of daily operations for broadcast operator activities, ensuring compliance with FCC rules and regulations, state and federal laws, and University policies.
2. Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
3. Assists with problem solving issues, troubleshooting and mitigating broadcast disruptions and malfunctions, resolves personnel scheduling issues, and verifies uplink content adheres to established guidelines.
4. Acts as a source of technical advice and consultation to internal and external individuals and agencies on associated technical and operational issues.
5. Assists with monitoring and ensuring compliance with FCC rules and regulations, ensuring technical and operational efficiency in broadcast operations; verifies content availability to air, maintains required logs, upholds station standards and monitors performance for real-time and non-real time broadcasts.
6. Provides input on operational planning, short- and long-term goal development, and purchasing decisions influencing broadcast distribution systems locally, regionally and nationally.
7. Analyzes, designs, documents and implements internal reporting systems and procedures for the organization or business entity, within specified functional area of operation, as applicable to the specified functional area of focus.
8. Serves as a primary point of contact regarding scheduling, billing, and the resolution of customer problems, complaints, and questions.
9. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

• Ability to plan and implement production and operational schedules.
• Skill in the setup, calibration, operation, and maintenance of state-of the-art commercial audio-visual broadcasting equipment.
• Ability to examine and design effective and efficient operations and procedures.
• Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
• Ability to operate computer-controlled satellite, KU, and C-Band downlink and uplink equipment.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
