Summary

Develops and coordinates radio or instructional television broadcast schedules. May screen, evaluate, and recommend programs for broadcast. Maintains appropriate records and logs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Creates a broadcasting program schedule; schedules times, space, and dates for broadcast coverage.
  2. Coordinates, orders, and maintains logs on broadcast rights for programs aired.
  3. Screens, evaluates, and suggests programs for purchase.
  4. Interacts with viewers and campus organizations regarding programming concerns; provides information; researches and recommends solutions to problems.
  5. Prepares scheduled and special reports on programming and ratings for management, the Federal Communication Commission, and funding sources.
  6. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to plan and develop broadcasting program schedules.
  • Knowledge of procedures and documentation pertaining to broadcast rights.
  • Ability to evaluate and assess program material for broadcast suitability.
  • Ability to plan, assess, and evaluate programs.
  • Ability to functionally lead, train and motivate staff and student employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures within specialty area.

Conditions of Employment

  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
