Summary
Under general supervision, provides and/or oversees the design and implementation of public information and media programs, services, and activities for a specified organizational unit of the University. Develops, writes, and prepares informational and promotional publications, responds to requests for information, and disseminates information via multiple media. Facilitates and represents the organization at informational meetings and events. Participates in the formulation of internal and public information strategies and policies for the unit.
Duties and Responsibilities
Designs, writes, develops, and prepares various informational and/or technical materials for publication.
Plans and coordinates implementation of projects and programs to meet specific organizational needs and objectives in the areas of media communications and public relations.
Serves as unit liaison and coordinator on public and/or media relations issues; responds as appropriate to both internal and external requests for public information.
Designs, constructs, and implements informational web sites as appropriate to the general communications, public relations, and/or promotional needs of the organization.
Writes and edits public relations materials including news releases, articles, and newsletters.
Provides support, and represents the organization at various promotional events and business/community meetings, as assigned or as appropriate.
Assists in assessing needs and planning and formulating the organization's public/media relations policies, strategies, and responses.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
May travel to remote geographic locations on an extended or overnight basis, as appropriate to the individual position.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and standards of integrated web site structuring and design.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
Technical writing skills.
Ability to plan and create communications that are responsive to the needs of the organization.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
Possession of a valid NM Driver's License may be a requirement for some positions in this classifciation.
If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
No or very limited physical effort required.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
