Summary
Under general supervision, manages all production facilities, activities, and personnel for the University's television station, KNME-TV. Collaborates in and oversees the production of program materials which respond to audience needs and interests, the station's long-range plans, the needs of external clientele, required production timeframes, and budget constraints.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manages and coordinates the work of producers, directors, technical and support staff, students, interns, volunteers, and/or contracted professionals assigned to the unit.
Provides training in the production crafts for staff and students; ensures that the unit's workforce is capable of performing multiple assignments and can meet all identified production protocols.
Schedules and coordinates the personnel and facility support required to ensure adherence to prescribed policy parameters, budget requirements, and time deadlines.
Develops and manages the unit's various revenue/expense budgets, and monitors, analyzes, and controls production expenditures.
Ensures the professional maintenance, optimum operability, and inventory management of all production equipment and studio facilities.
Works directly with managers of all other departments in the planning of production projects, to ensure effective communication and cooperation between departments.
Leads teams and committees engaged in planning and executing projects supporting the station's strategic plan and its service commitment to education and the community.
Directs studio and field productions, as appropriate, to include lighting, staging, and set design; provides post-production editing services as required.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
Knowledge of professional audio and/or video tape editing and post-production procedures, techniques, and standards.
Knowledge of FCC and other federal, state and local broadcasting regulations.
Knowledge and understanding of television production principles, procedures, techniques, and facilities.
Knowledge and understanding of the operating principles, features, and standards of professional television production equipment.
Knowledge of television set design, staging, and lighting methods and techniques.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
