Summary

Oversees the planning, development, writing, and editing of all on-air marketing for the television station KNME-TV. Supervises the public relations coordinator, voice talent, students, and other staff in the production of on-air interstitial materials and provides technical guidance, training and support. Works closely with the Marketing Manager to create and execute station and program promotion, station ID's, image spots, educational spots, animation changes, underwriting credits, and other related promotions. Develops and implements strategic plans related to the scheduling and production of on-air materials in multiple media platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serves as project manager for the strategic planning of all on-air marketing activities.
  2. Develops and implements the planning, writing, editing, directing and production involved with on-air marketing activities through multimedia platforms.
  3. Writes, produces, directs and edits cable and radio advertising material.
  4. Supervises vocal talent in the production of audio materials for on-air, radio, and non-broadcast marketing uses.
  5. Coordinates on-air promotional efforts with radio, print and program guide advertising to have a strategic and consistent marketing message on all activities and programs being promoted.
  6. Supervises the work of others in the development of all on-air marketing materials including voice talent, student employees, public relations specialist and production techs.
  7. Compiles and/or writes all marketing materials for fundraising spots, program promotions, image campaigns, station events and education/outreach activities.
  8. Supervises the scheduling of all on-air marketing elements, including station and program promotion, station ID's, underwriting credits, public service announcements, image spots, and various fundraising spots.
  9. Evaluates audience demographics and other available research information to develop the most effective strategies for promotion scheduling and pledge drives.
  10. Ensures that all on-air material, either broadcast or produced, conforms to industry standards and FCC regulations.
  11. Works with the Marketing Manager in the planning and coordination of special events which may include: fund-raisers, outreach and community events, book signings, exhibits, children's events and produce service fairs.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources.
  • Knowledge of FCC and other federal, state and local broadcasting regulations.
  • Knowledge of television production and graphic design.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Knowledge of audio/video and staging techniques, facilities, and equipment.
  • Skill in audio and/or videotape editing and post-production procedures, techniques and standards.
  • Knowledge of the practices, protocols, and conventions of the entertainment industry.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Knowledge of television programming concepts, principles, methodology, and techniques.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments; evaluating performance; and mentoring and coaching employees to achieve maximum productivity.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Light physical effort; requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 lbs or some standing and/or walking.

The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
