Summary
Under indirect supervision, delivers and sets up audio-visual equipment to classrooms, auditoriums, and/or a variety of other locations. Instructs users in equipment operations. Maintains appropriate records to include schedules, invoices, and inventory. Performs equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and more complex repairs. Records audio and video presentations for end users. May supervise the work of others
Duties and Responsibilities
Inspects, troubleshoots, and performs preventive maintenance and a range of repairs to audio and video equipment.
Receives requests for audio-visual resources; delivers and picks up audio-visual equipment and films to/from lecture halls, labs, classrooms, and other campus locations as requested.
Operates video and audio equipment to record and copy digital files, films and tapes, and to record from classes, lectures, seminars, or conferences.
Maintains equipment inventory and conducts security checks of equipment.
Consults with and advises faculty and students regarding audio and video needs to appropriately schedule resources.
May supervise the work of others.
Demonstrates or instructs others on the use of audio and video equipment.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
Ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform repairs to audio and video equipment.
Ability to use audio/video equipment to record live events.
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
Ability to determine the nature of computer hardware and systems software problems, and to communicate technical guidance and information to users.
Demonstrated ability to provide training, guidance, and operational support to lower level staff within area of specialty.
Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
Knowledge of inventory management practices.
Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
Ability to communicate with and understand the requirements of professional staff in area of specialty.
Knowledge of the alternative application of audio and video equipment in varying operational circumstances.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Position requires: a) Maintaining equipment records to include schedules, inventory, and invoicing; b) performing equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and more complex repairs; c) recording classes, lectures, seminars and/or conferences; and d) consulting with and advising faculty and students regarding audio visual needs.
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
The University of New Mexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
